Regal July Part 5

Last movie of July was a special 40th anniversary showing of Fast Times at Ridgemont High. A guy named Scott introduced an interview before the movie with the director Amy and the guy who did Licorice Pizza. 

I had to pay $12.50 to see it and went back and forth on whether I should or not. I received a 1/5 dot toward Emerald status. I also got a free small popcorn with points and 10% off of a large drink.

They said it was released in August of 1982 the summer after I had graduated from college. I worked at the Sherman Oaks Galleria (I verified just interior shots of it in the movie) during Christmas of 1980 after graduating high school at the department stores Broadway and Robinsons. The parking lot was awful at the Galleria.

There were two couples and a guy and I as individuals that watched it. I was there really early and asked security if it was okay that I was in the auditorium already and he said yes I could sit in the theater and wait.
 

Before I bought my ticket I took a picture of the photo booth. We had one in Reseda too.

The only other time the popular vote was brought up in my life that I saw was by the news in 2000 when they were recounting Florida for Gore.

Regal July Part 4

I didn’t read the book and I probably never will. They played the Reese Witherspoon interview/trailer before the movie.

Front row center!

I had a seat empty on either side of me. Like anyone I picked the best available reserved seat. The blue light went on during the movie and I wasn’t sure what to do. All I could think of was “chair malfunction” and put my feet down and back up with the reclining seat.

Popcorn was loud. Movie wasn’t.

I had a choice between this movie and Thor: Love and Thunder  (or Minions: The Rise of Gru) The trailer to this was scary. I wasn’t thrilled by any of them really.

And so I was really surprised! It isn’t a scary movie at all! It’s more like a public service announcement to make sure the girls today make the right choices. 

And the witches laugh. Kya got my birthday cake too.

Enjoyed seeing David Strathairn from Good Night, and Good Luck as the lawyer. 

I only know three things about either Carolina. I was at the Charlotte airport in 2021, Kitcheneez is from there and the HGTV Smart Home above. I had heard it was a nice place to live.

Regal July Part 3

I looked all over. No posters or promos anywhere in the theater. And then I saw a photo booth. I knew Rosie O’Donnell and Tom Cruise would get the joke.

(No they weren’t in there) Irony it’s with a Marvel Vampire logo! I’ll just cut that part off. Chose my favorite one. 

This is what 60 years old looks like! They gave extra credits for Tom’s birthday earlier in the month.

So a screenshot. 

I was surprised that Tom Cruise said hi to us and to enjoy the movie! I also enjoyed it more than I thought I would! I was just going to see the sequel because I had seen the original. Happy to see he came back as an instructor.

Back then I was trying to find something my boyfriend would like. The first thing he said to me was “it’s the pyromaniac guy!” I had to ask him about three more times what he meant until I got out of him “from Endless Love” oh! (I still didn’t remember the pyromaniac guy… this was the Risky Business guy)

It was good to see Ice Man and I thought that Jon Hamm fit in well. I also thought Jennifer was a better choice for Mav! Actor to watch is the guy who plays H_ngm_n.

Free movie with Unlimited. Tuesday is 50% off of popcorn so I got the large with 10% off a large drink. I’ve already earned a small popcorn within three visits but I get freebies for my birthday first.

Regal July Part 2

I ate a ba-na-na this morning with peanut butter. I remember I had heard Elvis liked fried peanut butter and banana sandwiches and mom said she’d make me one. They were a little much so I use to eat them un-fried in my lunch when I was little. I’m down to skipping the bread as an adult.

Mom told me the story about how one of the neighbors invited her to the set of Blue Hawaii. He was busy but he glanced over and smiled. She was careful to explain that it was probably because of her hair and looking like his mom. She said his eyes almost twinkled when he grinned. She liked his gospel music. 

She told me he didn’t like the movies I watched of his very much. That it was an idea of Colonel Parkers’ to do them and that they all seemed the same to him. And told me about Ann Margaret. That she was suppose to be his female counterpart. He looked amused during Viva Las Vegas as far as I could tell.

I remember we watched the special he did in the late 60s for tv. It was done well in the movie. 

I was 15 when he died. I remember when Priscilla and he had gotten married and had Lisa Marie. My generation unfortunately included and the Jackson’s. I thought Lisa’s marriage to Michael was sad that it didn’t work out at the time.

A dark rain cloud hovered over the parking lot when I arrived. I decided to wear as much black as I could with a black shirt and black boots. It was cornflower blue with white fluffy clouds when I left the theater though. I made it through.

I teared up at the end when the actor turned into the real Elvis but smiled when Elvis smiled. 

I was careful to pick a seat on the aisle one seat away from a couple but this stupid woman argued with me that I was sitting in her seat. I flashed my ticket at her.“Oh sorry” They were at the other end. Seats seemed to be hard to find below me also where the wheelchair accessible seats are. About five old ladies arguing and wandering around until four settled down after finding where they could sit in a reserved seat theater.

I don’t know why I wasn’t allowed to go to my reunion near Encino, to Hawaii or my Tori Belle conference at Westgate. “It’s a mystery” 

The movie itself is very colorful and the graphic art makes it look pretty. I think of the 50s as very colorful also and most of the footage we have is in black and white. I didn’t know anything about Colonel Parker other than Elvis was one of the many victims back then of managers hiding money from the talent with bad deals made. The merchandising thing was done to the Beatles too.

A picture of Elvis’ real mom flashes on the screen at the right when Elvis goes to Germany in the movie. A better movie to see is That Thing You Do! with Tom Hanks as the manager. 

Regal Theater Victory July

Yesterday I went to pick up my birthday gifts from Sephora and Ulta and since Regal was on the way out of the mall I decided to talk to a manager about the problems I was having in the app. She fixed it for me and I now have a Regal Unlimited subscription.

It reminded me of something I would see on PBS but it was an okay movie if you want to see it. I went to the Fashion Institute (FIDM) so it was something I felt I needed to see about Christian Dior. The movie was free and I received 10% off of my drink and popcorn.

And 500 bonus points!

Pretty Woman and The Devil Wears Prada did it better. I guess it is suppose to teach us how the English handle the imaginary class system again. *suffering* (I’m not a Lady GaGa fan so missed that designer story)

I wore Prada Candy and KanCans to the theater anyway. It was more “how come when they see one seat taken a couple has to sit right next to you in an empty theater row” I had to fight from getting up and moving over a seat as a single woman the whole time. Intimidation will not win!

I have movies to try and catch up on….
